    The state of Wyoming was established as part of the United States on July 10, 1890, making it the 44th to join the union. Wyoming ranks 9th in size8 with 97,105 sq. miles of land, and Cheyenne is the largest city. Wyoming also ranks 51st in population8 with 493,782 residents (2000 est.), and Cheyenne is the state capital. The official bird of Wyoming is the Meadowlark, and the official flower is the Indian Paintbrush.
