The state of Wyoming was established as part of the United States on July 10, 1890, making it the 44th to join the union. Wyoming ranks 9th in size⁸ with 97,105 sq. miles of land, and Cheyenne is the largest city. Wyoming also ranks 51st in population⁸ with 493,782 residents (2000 est.), and Cheyenne is the state capital. The official bird of Wyoming is the Meadowlark, and the official flower is the Indian Paintbrush.
